Eagle's Nest - Berchtesgaden

General information

The Kehlsteinhaus is one of the TOP100 sights in Germany. It offers a great panoramic view of the Berchtesgaden Alps and Salzburg. But of course it is “the historical authenticity of the place” that attracts visitors from all over the world. A visit to the Obersalzberg documentation is recommended to deepen the historical context.
Mainly German and later also Czech and Italian skilled workers were involved in the construction of the Kehlsteinhaus. The tea room was walled up with sandstone, the walls of the Scharitzkehlstüberl were completely clad with stone pine. Because of the elaborate design of the Kehlsteinhaus including the five tunnels, the elevator system and the access roads, the pure construction costs amounted to around 30 million Reichsmarks at that time, which corresponds to around 130 million EUR today.
